2. GME Policy 1.3. A. Post-Graduate Year One (PGY-1) Residents 1. PGY-1 Exam Requirements Quick Reminder “All post-graduate year one (PGY-1) residents are required to pass Steps 1 and 2 (CK and CS) of the USMLE (or equivalent exams for DOs) prior to beginning residency training, and must show evidence of that as part of the credentialing process. All PGY-1 residents are required to take and pass USMLE Step 3 (or equivalent exam for DOs), receive scores, and provide evidence of a passing score to the Graduate Medical Education Office by the last day of the PGY-1 year.”

4. Changes • Test can be scheduled on non-consecutive days • New exam subcategories • NOT need to apply for Step 3 under eligibility requirements of a specific licensing state authority

5. So, here’s the story • Last day to register for the CURRENT Step 3 exam is July 18, 2014, 4 pm MST • Can schedule to take this exam in August and September

6. The story continued • Registration for RESTRUCTRED Step 3 exam begins August 1st • This exam will be administered starting in November • No exams are offered in October due to the transition

8. The story continued • Those taking the exam on or after Nov. 1, 2014, FSMB does not expect to release any scores until the first week of April 2015! • That is 4 MONTHS later

9. GME Requirement All residents will be required to take Step 3 no later than: FEBRUARY 2015
