The sixth chapter of the Call of Duty series and the sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. (aka :CoD, MW2, or just MW2) • FPS video game • Developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC in 2009 • Previous games include Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 3, Call of Duty: World at War, Call of Duty: 4 Modern Warfare
Like in the previous game, you are an elite soldier in multiple services ranging from the British SAS to being an American Army Ranger. Your mission is prevent WWIII from occurring. The single player storyline is infectious and gets the players attention from the beginning. Intense cut scenes and plotline results in adrenaline-pumping, heart-racing storyline that makes the player want to keep going. Players are able to identify with the characters and it makes the game that much better. The story, in combination with the online gameplay, makes it playable for most anyone.
5 Reasons why Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 should be canonized 1) Broke sales records across multiple industries 2) Intuitive “Create-a-Class” for online play 3) Updated Killstreak rewards 4) Expanded the gaming industry 5) It’s an amazing game
Sales Record Demolition • The total income from first day sales in America and the UK was $310 million (£214 million) which made Modern Warfare 2 the biggest entertainment launch in history • After five days of sales, the game had earned $550 million (£379 million) worldwide and as of 18th January 2010, it has taken over $1 billion in sales. • This means that MW2 outsold any movie, play, sporting event, album or hit single in the recent history of the US
Create-a-Class • Over 42 assault rifles, shotguns, submachine guns, sniper rifles, handguns, launchers, light machine guns • Creativity was encouraged with perks like “Bling” which allowed you to have two primary weapon attachments • Different load-outs with different perksgave players the chance to make their weapons fit their play style; you could be stealthy or balls to the wall • Gave MW2 a big advantage over comparable games
Updated Killstreak Rewards • Killstreaks were tools that players could use once they reached a certain number of kills in one life (ex. UAV showed where the other team was) • Previously you could only use the UAV, Airstrike, and attack helicopter but in MW2 you could utilize the Chopper Gunner, AC-130, Pave-Low, Harrier Strike, Sentry Gun, Nuke, and many many more. • Killstreaks were cumulative, so getting kills with one led to the subsequent ones. • This, like Create-a-Class, was very conducive to players being able to customize their playing style
Expanded the Gaming Industry • According to the NPD Group, Modern Warfare 2 sold approximately 4.2 million units for the Xbox 360 and 1.87 million units for the PlayStation 3 in the U.S. during the month of November 2009 • An unprecedented number of people played this game ranging from all sorts of different ethnic backgrounds, countries, ages and sexes. Everyone and their brother was playing MW2 which did a lot of good for the gaming industry and the gaming community as a whole.

That’s all Folks The intuitive programmers and developers at Infinity Ward and Activision have arguably created the best first person shooter to ever grace a gaming console. The reasons that I mentioned and a multitude of others all lend themselves as to why this game should join the ranks of those to be canonized.
