Monday, April 16th • Please write the RULES for HYPHENS in the DWL Section of your binder. • Use a hyphen (-) to separate some closely related words. • Ex) half-moon • Use a hyphen between fractions (written in words). • Ex) three-fourths • Use a hyphen between two-digit words in numbers from 21 to 99 • Ex) eighty-five • Use a hyphen when dividing a word of two or more syllables when they are at the end of a line of writing and there is no more space on that line. • Ex) Jenny and Garth went on vacation early so they were ab- • sent from school for two days. .
Tuesday, April 17th Use yesterday’s notes. Rewrite the sentences placing a hyphen (-) where needed. • I have twenty two outlets in my house that are three pronged. • I ate one third of the cake and he ate the last two thirds. • Jim’s presentation was top notch and he received a ninety five percent. • Write a sentence and separate a word at the end of the line correctly between syllables with a hyphen.
