  2. Calendar Reminders The school year is full of important dates. Remind parents and students of athletic and performance schedules, standardized testing dates, end of marking periods, upcoming holidays and school closings.

  3. Celebrations The school year is also full of accomplishments. Sadly, publicly celebrating the successes of students and teachers can be hard to accomplish in a timely fashion. Social media allows immediate announcements to the entire school community.

  4. Helpful Resources Most parents would be happy to extend learning beyond the school day if they had the knowledge and skills needed to support their children. Share links to valuable web-based resources based on parenting , teaching, or content. .

  5. Decisions and Details Schools and organizations that support them make decisions with far-reaching consequences- share the decisions through social media to spread information quickly about new grading or promotion standards, after-school programs, field trips, booster clubs and educational foundations. Be transparent.

  6. Emergency Updates School based emergencies do happen planning communication patterns is responsible practice, social media can help principals to ease fears, and get messages out to parents and support professionals in emergency situations.

  7. Creating accounts • Usernames should be easy for students and parents to remember • fill out the bio so people know they are in the right place • Use school mascot or logo • Use a direct link to school website

  8. Informing parents Educate parents at open houses, back to school nights and in written communications so they know how to access the social media sites you are using.

  9. Tweetdeck Post pictures, manage multiple accounts, translate messages, conduct searches, shorten long web addresses and tweets. Connect with contacts across a variety of social networks
