  7. Discussion Question What are some qualities that mark our current culture? Hint: Think about today’s post-modern culture

  8. Generational Differences • Generation Y (Millennials) • Busters (Generation X) • Boomers • Boosters

  9. Generation Y (Millennials) • Born 1976-1996 • This generation’s defining moment will be the terrorist attacks on 9/11/01

  10. Busters (Generation X) • Born 1965-1976 • Around 41 million • At risk • Electronic generation • Indecisive and overwhelmed by choices • Felt the brunt of society’s devaluation of children • 70% claim that absolute truth does not exist

  11. Busters (Generation X) • Key Issues • personal identity • establishing and maintaining relationships that result in meaningful community

  12. Boomers • Born 1946-1964 • 76 million • 33% of the population • Looking for quality and value in their commitments and relationships • Redefining themselves • Looking for meaningful connections with organizations and people that share their values and goals

  14. Boosters • Born before 1946 • Strong work ethic • Saved their money • Driven by security and stability • Lived through the depression • Loyal to God and country • Value institutions • Joiners • Very responsible • Traditional family model

  16. Don’t forget! We are all: Sinners in need of forgiveness, Souls in need of salvation Searchers seeking after significance Loners, needing to love and be loved, Hopeful, wishing for encouragement; Insecure, longing for total security, Desirous of making a difference.

  20. How can these needs be met through Women’s Ministries? • Needs may be felt and perceived • Brainstorm with a representative group • Record findings • All ideas are valuable • Summarize findings and prioritize

  28. Utilize many volunteers For every one volunteer, you attract four attendees. Use LOTS of volunteers!

  29. Build the Team Get the “big picture” Make sure everyone is on the samepage. Don’t miss the forest for the trees!
