Protocol Manager Demonstration Future NRMP & PNAMP Collaboration? June 20, 2006 Jennifer Bayer, PNAMP Coordinator (USGS)
Pacific NorthwestAquatic Monitoring Partnership(PNAMP) A forum for coordinating state, federal, and tribal aquatic monitoring programs in the Pacific Northwest
PNAMP Objectives • Provide a technical forum to develop, coordinate and inform monitoring and evaluation (M&E) programs • Provide a forum and process for communication with decision makers • Be a clearing house for sample design, protocol development, and data management activities • Provide process to establish landscape/ecosystem metrics
PNAMP Partners Charter signed by 19 state, tribal, federal, and regional entities: WA GSRO
PNAMP Current Tasks • Protocolstandardization/ coordination • Inventory of monitoring activities • Universal Survey Design for status/trend monitoring • Data Management coordination (NED, PNW RGIC) • High-level Indicatorsdevelopment • Facilitate regional Networking
PNAMP Protocol Tasks • Tools • Protocol Manager • Protocol format (Oakely et al 2003) • Method manual/ training format
PNAMP Protocol Tasks Protocols under development • Macroinvertebrate collection • Fish population monitoring techniques • Watershed assessment (habitat) techniques • Effectiveness monitoring techniques
NRMP Goals • Improve the accessibility of monitoring efforts to resource managers to aid them in decision-making for multiple purposes at multiple scales. • Develop practical resources that can help the resource management community develop and improve monitoring efforts to support more effective evaluation and decision making.

NRMP Core Resources(to be hosted by the NBII) • Monitoring Protocol Library - An internet accessible, searchable database that provides information on monitoring protocols and resource assessment methodologies organized to facilitate reference and use.. • Monitoring Locator - An internet-based, GIS application that allows users to identify what natural resource monitoring is being conducted within a particular area (e.g., State, county, Canadian Province, or other selected geographic area).
