ISSUE The Maryland Office of the Public Defender wishes to find a time saving solution to determining if an individual qualifies for assigned counsel. Cases that are of importance in determination are appellate convictions and juvenile delinquency cases.
PROCESS Use QnA markup to incorporate the different factors that go in to determining indigency for both adults and juveniles. Combine potential financial burden of a case and the defendant’s financial situation and ability to cover the financial burden to determine indigency. Use current data of the defenders office to ascertain how much time will be saved by using this bot.
Intricacies The bot must be able to approach all factors are taken into consideration for determining eligibility of a client. The staff of this office must also be able to make their own edits to the bot in compliance with any changes or exceptions that arise over time. There must be underlying data used to determine the case burden and how this has been applied to the logic of the bot.
FINAL PRODUCT The final product will be a functional bot that can be used to determine a client’s indigency and give different outcomes based on financial burden, client’s financial status, and whether they are an adult or juvenile delinquent.
