  1. h Philip Diamond RadioNetCoordinator University of Manchester Jodrell Bank Observatory Implementation Plan for next 18 months MTR: 12 April 2007 Grenoble

  2. 18 month plan • Plan covers the period 1 Jan 2007 – 30 June 2008, i.e. leaves only 6 months of RadioNet remaining • As always, 18 month plan is an ‘amendment to the contract’, it defines the planned scope of work - see Annexe D of AR3 for details. • Althea will deal with financial issues. Critical because we are now looking at the ‘end game’ • A major effort over next 9 months will focus on the planning for the FP7 RadioNet proposal

  3. Networking • N1: Management – same focus and level of effort as previously • N2: Synergy – technical exchanges (Latvian VIRAC staff to Torun & Noto; OAN staff to ASTRON). Implement new RadioNet portal, discuss possible developments of NorthStar • N3: Science Workshops – major programme: LOFAR science (in 2 weeks); 2nd ERIS (Bonn, Sept); Massive star formation (Heidelberg, Sept); YERAC (Bordeaux, Autumn); Modern Radio Universe (Manchester, Oct); CSS/GPS (Riccione, Spring 08); 9th EVN Symp (Bologna); 6th IRAM Interf. School; Central kpc of AGN (Mykonos). • N4: Workshops on digital receivers, digital backends, antennas + EVN-TOG • N6: ALMA Community Day (Garching); ALMA and surveys (Italy); ALMA software demo and tutorial; mm calibration techniques • N7: JBO 7-m telescope more accessible for internet users; SKA ISSC meetings; discussions of future of radio astronomy with ESO/ESO Council • N8: busy programme of ITU, CRAF and CEPT meetings

  4. JRAs • ALBUS: • Provide software and final report on calibration transfer – March 2007 • Report on ionospheric calibration options – June 2007 • Implementation of tropospheric calibration software – October 2007 • Post-correlator target selection – October 2008 (stretch target) • Implementation of wideband imaging – July 2008 • Evaluation of wide-field imaging algorithm – November 2008 • ParselTongue – January 2008 • ALBUS complete Oct 08, no extra funding • AMSTAR • Wide IF-band mixer (80-116 GHz) – stretch goal 8% - December 2007 • Wide IF-band mixer (385-500 GHz) – December 2007 • Wide IF-band mixer (600-720/800-950 GHz) – June 2007 • 2SB SIS Mixer (350 GHz) – work delayed, complete July 2007 • 2SB SIS Mixer (600-720 GHz) – September 2007 • HEB on Si3N4/SiO2 membranes – March 2007 • Balanced 1.3 GHz HEB mixer – December 2007 • Focal Plane Heterodyne Array Receiver – June 2007 • AMSTAR complete Dec 07, some extra funding requested

  5. JRAs • PHAROS • Full functional test of PHAROS cryostat – May 2007 • Assemble beamformer – October 2007 • Control software complete – September 2007 • Tests in ASTRON measurement chamber – Jan 2008 • Tests on Lovell and maybe Parkes – July 2008 • Test advanced technology MMICs – June 2007 • PHAROS complete Jul 2008, no extra funds TNAs • TNAs continue at current rate, push for more publications.
