This is a draft document. 10 June 2011. A budget item (node) forms its own smaller tree (a bush, shall we call it) which consists of children. The “bush” is attached to the chosen tree at one or more leaf nodes of the tree. The “bush” then temporarily forms part of the tree navigation.

“Any” Tree PROJECT : Caanan MPCC Project: Building of MPCC Task: Buy land Task: Get EIA approval
Types of branches on the tree include – Block sums, of various kinds Packed projects Projects Tasks
Parent, child relationships You can create children from any branch, except for ‘Tasks’. Tasks is the lowest level of ‘what’ in the tree.
Parent, child relationships ... There are rules that decide what kind of children nodes you can make. For example, you cannot make ‘tasks’ directly from ‘packed projects’.
Types of parents and children, • Block sums • Block sums specify a general purpose. They tend not to have a single purpose and are not site specific. • Projects • Projects tend to have a single purpose and, for spatial projects, are implemented at a single site. • Packed projects • Specify a purpose, but are not site specific. • Tasks • Tasks are a single activity, and for spatial projects, will take place at a single site.
Delegation You can delegate responsibility for aspects of your block sum, packed project, or project to someone else. You cannot delegate tasks. You retain overall responsibility for items on your capital budget listing.
