  3. kinsman-redeemer: • In those days, if a man died, his widow would really be helpless, especially if she didn’t have children who would take care of her when she got old. And people who were poor would have to sell their land in order to survive. But God gave them laws that told them that when a man died, a close relative must marry the dead man’s widow, and buy back the land if they had to sell it. That way the widow would be provided for and still be able to have children.
