BASIC HISTORICAL INFORMATION • National Independence Day is June 12, 1898. • Filipinos are of Malay descent. • The Philippines is in the records of the Sung (982 AD) and Ming Dynasty (1410 AD)of Ancient China. • In 1521, the Spanish came and resulted to around 300 years of colonization. • During the Spanish-American War in the Philippines from 1989-1900, Spain eventually sold the Philippines to the United States and was under its rule for around 40 years • The Japanese also invaded the Philippines and Filipinos and Americans fought together in World War II. • Korean migration to the Philippines started around the 80s.
