Reasons for Seasons • The class will be split up into 4 groups • Each group will be assigned a reading in the textbook to teach the class • You will have 7 minutes to plan for a 3 minute mini lesson. • Each group will have vocab words to explain
Earth’s Orbit • Ellipse: Slightly elongated circle. • Earth’s orbit is an ellipse around the sun.
Tilt of Earth’s Axis: 23.5 • Earth’s tilt is directed toward the North Star, aka: Polaris. The tilt does not change!
Equinox: Spring and fall – when the sun is directly over the equator. The number of daytime and nighttime hours are the same • Equinox: equal night • Solstice: When the sun reaches its greatest distance away from the equator. Happens in the winter and summer. • Solstice: standing still
