What is Christmas? • The gifts under the tree, the lights in the windows, the cards in the mail, turkey dinners with family and friends, snow in the yard, stockings hanging in the living room, and shouts of "Merry Christmas" to those who pass us in the streets • Christmas can be a season of great joy. It is a time of God showing His great love for us
The birth of Christ • An Angel visited Mary in the sixth month after Elizabeth became pregnant • Journey to Bethlehem from Nazareth (65miles) of Joseph and Mary • Angels appeared to shepherds to break the news. It was good tidings of great joy for all the people. That very day, in nearby Bethlehem, a Baby had been born. The Baby was a Savior, who is Christ the Lord!
Angel’s Song lyrics • “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:14) • This song tells us about Jesus was born to (1) bring glory to God, (2) bring peace to earth, (3) bring salvation to men.
Jesus was born to bring glory to god • Glory to God (Praise be to God, or honor be to God) that is, the praise of redeeming man is due to God. • The plan of redemption will bring glory to God, and is designed to express His glory. • God glory amazingly displayed by giving His only-begotten Son to die for people. • Christ’s birth is the honor of His law and the stability of His own government, God’s kingdom. • It is the highest expression of His love and mercy.
Jesus was born to bring peace to earth • The world is at war with God; sinners are at enmity against their Maker and against each other. There is no peace to the wicked. • On earth peace - That is, the gospel will bring peace. The Savior was predicted as the Prince of peace, Isaiah 9:6.
Jesus was born to bring peace to earth Jesus came to make peace: • By reconciling the world to God by His atonement. • By bringing the sinner to a state of peace with his Maker. • By spreading in the heart universal good-will to people. • By spreading the principles of universal peace among nations.
Jesus was born to bring peace to earth When men become reconciled to God, through the death of his Son, they love one another. They have peace with God; peace in their own consciences; and peace with their neighbors: good-will dwells among them, speaks in them, and works by them.
Jesus was bornto bring salvation to men • An angel said to Joseph: “Mary will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21 • Simeon, who was righteous and devout, took eight-day-old Jesus in his arms and praised God: “Sovereign Lord, as You have promised, You now dismiss Your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen Your salvation which You have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to Your people Israel.” (Luke 2:29-32)
Jesus was bornto bring salvation to men • The proclamation of angels, the rejoicing of shepherds, the worshiping of wise men all declare, “A Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:11) • The apostles preached: “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12) • You must to receive Christ for your personal salvation today.
Jesus was bornto bring salvation to men • The Bible says that all have sinned. We are all born with a sin nature. Through the sins of Adam and Eve, we have all inherited that sin nature. • We need to have that removed. The only way is through Jesus. Jesus came so He could die on the cross for ALL of our sins. • If you believe that Jesus died for your sins, you can ask Him to come into your hearts and forgive you. • Then, we are clean and made whole. We can know that heaven is a place where we can go to when this life is over.
Jesus was bornto bring salvation to men • "But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong." I John 1:9
