  4. Pacific Regional Workshop on Coral Reefs and Land Based Pollution • June 23-24, 2003 Field trip and Workshop in Honolulu • Held in conjunction with Climate Change Workshop and EPA’s Annual Pacific Islands Environmental Conference • Over 100 attended

  5. Pacific Regional LBP Workshop Larry Yamamoto, USDA Wayne Nastri, EPA Topics Discussed: • Impacts of pollutants on Pacific coral reefs • Understanding and managing pollutant inputs • Local Action Strategies to reduce impacts • Success stories • Funding, common needs, and next steps

Common Needs Identified at Workshop • Enforcement of existing environmental laws • Increase local government capacity • Training local technical staff • Improved monitoring tools for assessing pollutant impacts & trigger levels for regulating sediments • Improve outreach and education to diverse ethnic groups

  7. Field Trip at Kaneohe Bay Visit Labs at Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology Snorkel in patch reefs dominated by non-native macroalgae
