IST Programme in the 6th FP Contributions The IST thematic priority will contribute directly to realising European policies for the knowledge society as agreed at the Lisbon Council of 2000, the Stockholm Council of 2001, the Seville Council of 2002, and reflected in the e-Europe Action Plan. FP6 : 2002 - 2006
IST Programme in the 6th FP Objectives The objectives of IST in FP6 are to ensure European leadership in the generic and applied technologies at the heart of the knowledge economy. It aims to increase innovation and competitiveness in European businesses and industry and to contribute to greater benefits for all European citizens.
IST Programme in the 6th FP Focus The focus of IST in FP6 is on the future generation of technologies in which computers and networks will be integrated into the everyday environment, rendering accessible a multitude of services and applications through easy-to-use human interfaces. This vision of "ambient intelligence" places the user, the individual, at the centre of future developments for an inclusive knowledge-based society for all.

Technology Enhanced Learning (FP6) Objectives in WP2003 1 The objective is to develop open systems and services to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of learning, facilitating transfer and sharing of knowledge and skills, and extending access to new learning opportunities, independent of time, place and pace.
Technology Enhanced Learning Objectives in WP2003 2 They (the developed systems and services) will lower technological barriers in the learning path, and offer new levels of collaborative, experiential and ubiquitous learning, supported with appropriate organisational and business models. Addressed are the learning/teaching needs of educational institutions, of companies and organisations, and the lifelong learning needs of individuals
Technology Enhanced Learning Specific research objectives 1 - To develop tools and environments for learning resource management, embedding cognitive-based learner identification and profiling, knowledge modelling, adaptivity to learning needs, support to evaluation and assessment; and new forms of authoring and distribution of re-usable, multilingual learning objects.
Technology Enhanced Learning Specific research objectives 2 - To develop next generation e-learning systems and services enabling ubiquitous, experiential and contextualised learning. Research encompasses seamless access to learning facilities, enhanced with virtual and augmented reality, and simulation, e.g. for virtual classroom and campuses, virtual coaching and training, over broadband and mobile communication networks, including wearable and dedicated learning appliances.
Technology Enhanced Learning Specific research objectives 3 - To develop technologies enabling virtual collaborative learning communities exploring new paradigms ranging from self-learning to social learning, including peer interaction, reciprocal teaching, collaborative knowledge creation and communities of practice
Technology Enhanced Learning Instruments Integrated Projects will cover all relevant facets of the research, including technology, pedagogy, cognitive and organisational issues. Networks of Excellence are expected to contribute to experimental, longer-term research on new e-learning systems and paradigms, enhancing human learning and cognitive processes. All instruments, including Specific Targeted Research Projects, will play a role in promoting best practice, take up and dissemination
