An introduction to CE52303-2 • This module enables you to build three-dimensional objects in a virtual reality • You will be able to design and build photo-realistic objects [POV-Ray] • You will be able to visualise complex structures and manipulate them • You will be able to interact with objects in a scripted 3D environment [Alice]

  3. Who is the module for? • You will need to be visually creative and analytical • You will need the ability to describe your designs in a precise, structured way • There are no pre-requisite modules, so the module is open to all

  4. What is 3D graphics for? • Three-dimensional graphics has applications in • Business, advertising – online product views • The arts – animation, virtual sculpture • Engineering – design and testing

  5. What is 3D graphics for? • Three-dimensional graphics has applications in • Scientific and medical visualisation • Film and television – most fantasy movies use computer generated images (CGI) extensively • Computer games http://www.eeggs.com/items/37845.html

  6. Example movie • The following movie was generated using two applications • Graphics were rendered with the “POV-Ray” package – high quality freeware, available to all • The images were made into an animation using “Windows Movie Maker” available on all our Windows computers
