Food Service Industry • NRA (National Restaurant Association) • Food industry sales are about 4% of the US gross domestic product (GDP) • Most eating and drinking places are small businesses (7 out of 10 have less than 20 employees) • More than 70 million meals & snacks are eaten in restaurants, schools, & work cafeterias each year • In 2010 the restaurant industry is expected to operate more than 1 million units and post $577 BILLION in sales
