WG4: Diagnostic/Control/Overall Protection • Outcome of the meeting in Frascati October 2009: • The two most urgent points for group WG4: • to define the diagnosticability of LH possible ports 9, 11 and 14, from the point of view of the visible/IR camera and bolometry, in order to give a hint on which one is more convenient. • the integration of the reflectometer waveguides with the antenna in the port plug-in.
Port allocation 11 or 14 for LH? Horizontal port 14: • Located between two ICRH antennas (13 and 15). Likely to cause strong modifications in edge density (poloidally inhomogeneus), which may cause strong changes in coupling and hot spots. • To be avoided at all costs. Horizontal port 11: Seems to be optimum for transmission lines and generator placement. May still be magnetically connected to ICRH antenna in 13, since only 40 toroidally apart. Poor coverage by IR/VIS system.

Port allocation 9 for LH? Horizontal port 9: At present, an IR/VIS system is foreseen for 9. If one assumes that one moves the IR/VIS from 9 to 10, and put LH in 9, on can get a more optimum solution: Far away from ICRH antennas, 80 toroidally apart. The LH launcher, if located in port 9, would be well visible by the IR/VIS system in #12. Generator and transmission line placement?
