The socialist revolutionary party • Their opposition: the Russian social democrats • The party of socialist revolutionaries was founded in 1901 one of the main leaders was Victor Chernov. • In 1896 the northern union of socialist revolutionaries was formed. • The main policy of the socialist revolutionaries was to share land among the peasants according to need. • A maximum 8-hour day for factory workers. • Victor Chernov disagreed with the believes of Marxists who claimed that the peasants were a social class.
Why did the social revolutionists fail? • Firstly they could not gain the support of the peasants. • Secondly they could not decide as a party on how to move Russia on. • Different beliefs caused arguments. • Failed November 1917
