  1. STAR STUDENTS Welcome to Ms. Siggers’ Class Monaco Elementary 2012-2013

  2. About the Teacher • This is my first year in the classroom. • I was an intern at Monaco last year. • I love what I do!

  3. Morning Arrival 7:15-7:45 • Doors open at 7:15AM. • School begins promptly at 7:45AM. • Bellwork is assigned at this time, but not too often taken for a grade since it’s difficult to have everyone finished due to various arrival times. • Announcements at 7:40AM. *schedule

  4. Number of the Day 7:50-8:00 We meet on the carpet and discuss the number of the day and any other important information for the day.

  5. Reading and Writing 8:00-10:00 Our Literacy Instruction includes whole group modeling and teaching, as well as independent practice time. We also do small groups which include: Read to Self—Read to Someone—Listen to Reading Writing—Word Work—Guided Reading .

  6. Math 10:00-11:00 We will have an hour of math instruction each day. Homework will cover the same math objective to serve as an extension of the day’s learning.

  7. Lunch 11:00-11:30 Please send lunch money in a baggie or envelope with your child’s name on it. You are welcome to come have lunch with your child. There is visitor table for you to enjoy. Microwaves can be used by 3rd graders.

  8. Recess 11:30-11:55 We can only go out if outside temperature is above 40 degrees and below 90 degrees. Be sure your child has “the right” recess shoes as well as weather appropriate clothing.

  9. Study Hall 11:30-11:55 • Reasons Your Child Goes to Study Hall Instead of Recess: • Unfinished classwork from the morning • Completing make-up work • Consequence for an undesirable behavior • No homework • *Discuss pull-outs*

  10. Science 12:00-1:05 We are keeping most of our science work in journals that will come home at the end of the year. End of the unit work may come home towards the middle and end of the six weeks.

  11. Social Studies 1:05-1:45 We will integrate social studies and reading to cover more topics in depth. In addition to our communities topics, we also will learn about important people in history.

  12. ...and Many More! Specials 1:50-2:55 Our class always starts in P.E. One day we go onto music, with the next day it’s onto computers. Please make sure your child has “the right” shoes for P.E.

  13. Afternoon Dismissal 3:00 Hopefully it’s all working smoothly now. Grades k-2 are in the gym, along with their older siblings. Grades 3-5 are in the cafeteria.

  14. Homework Math and spelling homework come home on Mondays and are not due back until Friday morning. Reading homework is 20 minutes a night. (Please sign the calendar each night.) We encourage any kind of reading, including listening to read, reading independently, or reading with someone

  15. Classroom Management •  = Perfect Day • J = Super Day • = Good • J = Warning • K= Reflection Needed • L= Time Out (Class/Recess) • L= Parent Contact • 1st: Verbal reminder. • 2nd and 3rd: Move clip. • 4th: Office referral and Contact Parents

  16. Dress Code • The Dress Code is on the blue folders. • Special Notes: • Plaid shorts or skirts are not allowed. • Feathers in the hair are not allowed. • Shirts must have a collar or be Aubrey ISD. • Leggings must be solid. • Dresses do not need collars.

  17. Birthdays We would love to celebrate your child’s birthday with them. By state law, we must do it after lunch. Also, all goodies must be store bought. *Nut allergies

  18. Field Trips Our one field trip is on November 8th to Elm Fork at UNT. We can only take a few volunteers per class due to limitations UNT enforces, so we’ll do a drawing.

  19. Volunteer in our Classroom! Volunteers Our wonderful PTO would love for you to sign up as a volunteer. I will also need parents to help make copies and laminate, so please sign up if you’d like. Thanks.
