Summarize By: • The SUMMARIZE BY prompt calls for the numbers of the sort fields you want to use as control breaks. • A break point occurs when a sort field value changes and is a place where you may want to perform functions (eg: subtotal, count, average, minimum, maximum) on certain fields. • The sort field numbers can be entered in any order, separated by commas, and you may include a '0' (zero) to indicate that a grand (total report) summary line is also required.
Type of Summary Functions: The field number may be followed by a suffix indicating the type of summary function: • '*' for subtotal (default if no suffix) • 'C' for count • 'A' for average • 'L' for low (minimum) • 'H' for high (maximum) • 'E' for last value (ending). A field can have more than one summary function specified, for example: '3,4,4C,1L,5A,1H'.
