Scouting: Fun with a Purpose Scouting…. • Develops leadership skills and teaches duty to God & country, others and yourself. • Develops personal confidence and self-worth. • Utilizes activities designed to prepare boys to make ethical choices and strive to achieve their full potential • Is about doing your best

  3. The Cub Scout Organization The Pack… • Is a group of boys in grades 1 thru 5 and their adult leadership • Is sponsored by a Chartered Organization • Is divided into “Dens” which consist of 6-10 boys in the same grade level, and their adult leaders

  4. Cub Scout Organization (cont.) • Dens are organized by Rank based on age • Ranks are… • Tiger ( 7 years old or 1st grade ) • Wolf ( 8 years old or 2nd grade ) • Bear ( 9 years old or 3rd grade ) • Webelos ( 10 years old or 4th & 5th grades ) • All Scout Activities are age-appropriate

  5. Volunteerism as its Best • Parents are the major source of Scout leadership • Scouting is designed to help even the busiest parent get involved • Parents should participate in and encourage their boys in their advancement • Allows you to teach by example and impact quality time with your son.

  6. Training • Every boy deserves a trained leader • Training is offered to ensure a quality program and to keep our boys safe. • Learn how to keep den meetings fun and exciting as well as to identify available resources.

Things We Can Do: • Blue and Gold Banquet • Swimming Party • Christmas Parade • Scouting for Food • Bike Safety • Flag Ceremonies • Summer Camps • Day Camps • Cub Grub BBQ • Pinewood Derby • Rain Gutter Regatta • Space Rocket Derby • Cubmobile Derby • Fishing Derby • Pack Campout • Nova & Supernova Advancement

Pack Information • We are chartered by: Knights of Columbus, Jackson, MO • We are part of the Shawnee District of the Greater St. Louis Area Council • The Council provides literature, tools, training, volunteer & professional guidance and a major activity schedule, including provision of camp facilities • We were Chartered in 1969. • 46 active scouts and 10 adult leaders.

  9. Pack Information (cont.) • Leadership is made up of Parent Volunteers • Unit oversight provided by Pack Committee composed of parents and Leaders, who meet monthly • Pack meetings are held: K.C. Hall, Jackson • Next Pack meeting is: Cub Grub BBQ, 16 September, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. • The location of our next meeting is: Jackson Park Band Shelter #5

  10. How the Pack Funds Itself • Pack Dues (Paid Annually) • One annual Fundraiser (Popcorn Sales)

  11. Registration Fees • Registration is $20.00 • Boys’ Life magazine is $16.00 • Pack Dues are $ 0 • With Boys Life, tonight's total amount due is $36.00 • Make checks payable to “Pack 312” • There will be additional costs for pack t-shirts, uniforms, & Scout handbook.

  12. Boys’ Life Magazine • Official magazine of the BSA with over 1.3 million subscribers. • Order through the Pack and you will receive the Cub Scout edition • Boys‘ Life is $1 per month and delivered to your home.

  17. The Process… Step 1 Complete an application for your son Step 2 Complete a Leaders Application Step 3 Present your paperwork and fees for review with the membership chairman & treasurer.
