  3. Kent School District Students Outperform State and National Peers on Advanced Placement Exams • Advanced Placement (AP) offers a rigorous curriculum, and subject exams that can lead to college credits for high school students nation-wide. • AP courses and exams are offered in subjects such as the Arts, English, History, Math, Science, and World Languages and Cultures. • Success on an AP exam is defined as a score of 3 or higher. Most colleges grant college-level credit to students who score 3 or higher. • AP tests are scored on scale of 1 to 5: • 5 – Extremely well qualified • 4 – Well qualified • 3 – Qualified • 2 – Possibly qualified • 1 – No recommendation

  5. About the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program: • Kent-Meridian is the only KSD high school that offers IB, a challenging, college-prep program. • State-wide, 17 public high schools and two private schools currently have IB programs for students in grades 11 and 12, (shown on the next slide). • KM students and other KSD students may take IB coursework in each of six academic areas: English, the Arts, Math, History, Science, and World Languages and Cultures. • Some may also choose to become IB Diploma Candidates. The requirements include course work and assessments in all six areas, writing an essay exam, and meeting service requirements. • Most colleges admissions departments consider IB certification to be a strong “plus.”
