  2. Type of Art • They made jewelry that was carved and fine pottery. • The Olmec’s made statues of basalt, wood, and jade. • The statues where big heads for a range of 5 feet to 11 feet.

  3. Materials • The Olmec’s used mainly stone and clay. • The paint colors they used where mostly bright shades of yellow, purple, and red. • They also used multicolored clay • They used jade and greenstone to make finer lines in their art.

  4. The period it was in • It was in 800 B.C. -400 B.C. • Those years marks the finest period in Olmec art. 800 B.C. – 400 B.C.

  5. Best Known For… • The Olmecs are best known for their giant stone head sculptures. • They are also known for their small carvings. • Detailed jade objects • Motif combining human and jaguar objects • The jaguar objects were based on their most important god the jaguar.
