EXCEL MINI-PROJECT You will be creating your own grade book. This is a mini project that we will continue. Today we will revise how to use the SUM and AVERAGE functions and learn MIN, MAX AND COUNT
Create a header that says YOUR NAME GRADE BOOK (Go to slide number 3 for instructions – 10 PTS) • Starting with Column B row 2 put the following titles in what ever order you choose ( Math, Science Reading, Elective, Language Arts) (10PTS). Insert 5 fictitious grades for each subject (10 PTS). • In column A beside your first grade please type your assignments. You can put Assignment 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or you can label you assignments, Homework, Class work, Projects etc. • On Cell A8 type TOTAL SUM OF ALL GRADES • ON CELL A9 type LOWEST GRADE • On Cell A10 type HIGHEST GRADE • On Cell A11 type AVERAGE GRADE • On Cell E12 type OVERALL GRADE AVERAGE
Creating your header • Go to the insert menu tab on the ribbon • To the far right you will see a HEADER & FOOTER option (select)
In Cell B8 type your SUM FUNCTION • Find the SUM total of all your grades per subject area (ex. Add up all Math grades etc) (Go to slide 5 for instructions on functions – 20 pts) • Find the minimum value of grades per subject area using MIN function in cell B9. (20 PTS) • Find the maximum value of grades per subject area using MAX in cell B10 (20 PTS). • Find the AVERAGE of your individual grades- B11(20 pts) • Find your overall grade average in cell G12- use the AVERAGE function for all your grades(30 PTS) • Please ensure that you color fill the titles of your title row (5 PTS). ( ROW 2) • Please ensure that you color fill your assignment column (5 PTS). • Change the fonts and font sizes (5 PTS). • Make sure your overall grade title is in bold and in italics merging over 3 cells (10 PTS) • MAXIMUM GRADE = 165 PTS
Finding SUM • All functions in Excel must begin with the equal sign (=) • Type the = SUM ( in the cell that you want to display your sum totals) • Intelli-sense will display the word SUM • Click on displayed function. High light the cells that you want to add. • Enter ( you should now see you sum totals)
Finding MIN, MAX, AVERAGE • These functions are done similarly to the SUM functions.
Count the amount of data that you have in your grade book using COUNT function • Count the amount of Text and Numbers in your spreadsheet using COUNT A • Count the Amount of Blank spaces in your spread sheet using COUNT BLANK
