UK Government and GEOSHARE Presented by: on behalf of Elisavet Kitou - Defra Date: 10 September 2014
Why we are involved • Taking forward Foresight recommendations – UK Government Office for Science • Meeting environment and economic objectives, such as protecting the environment, environment and climate change, international development • Committed to high quality research: need for high quality, relevant and up to date data and analysis to help inform our policy makers
What we want to get out of this • A database fit for purpose to be used by researchers to conduct analysis on pertinent issues, such as productivity, water, land use as well as sustainable food production, food security, biodiversity etc. • Results that are easier to compare • The ability to contribute data • Closer co-operation between researchers, avoiding silo working practices
Lessons learned • When there is a will, there is a way! • Case studies demonstrate applicability and real life benefits • Proposed structure will manage standards, funding and priorities
