Steve Jobs said this about the first iPhone • “the phone is not just a communication • tool but a way of life” Apple’s iOS 7 The Evolution Features The Marketing Aspect Vs. Android
The iOS 7 was born! • The iOS 7 was in the beta testing this summer, but was finally released to the public on September 18, 2013 • They also released 2 new iPhones that day called the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c
There are several new features designed by the Apple team led by Senior VP of Design Jonathan Ive • Redesigned Notification Centre • A swipe up setting bar called the Control Center • Restructured Lock and Home Screens • Siri can change settings and her voice recognition is improved • Remodeled Photos, Safari, Maps, and Mail Apps • And The addition of iTunes Radio and Airdrop
Auto-updating on apps is going to be helpful for businesses • It allows them to be more experimental with the presentation and features of their app. • The company can now fix a mistake and put it on the next update, which will automatically update to the user • This will shift the focus of the app toward the information presented rather than the delivery of the content
The App Store has added a kids category that’s is targeted at children 11 and under • It will make it easier for children’s app creators to market their app to their target market
Apple has focused more on using precise location in their new iOS 7 apps • For businesses this means: • It will allow them to use the times and places the app is being used in • Marketers willfocus their audience of the app to their target market • Precise Location apps include: The iBeacons app and The Popular Near me app
On iOS 7, sharing information between your iPhone and Mac Computer (with OS X Maverick) is easier than ever • This provides marketers with a unique opportunity to study the path for purchase to the potential customer • Marketers will be able to identify the time, device, and place of the purchase
The Home Screen • The iOS 7 powered iPhone’s home screen includes bright colored 3-D looking icons on a line-by-line translucent dock. Android icons aren’t 3-D but they allow you to place the icons wherever you want on the screen. • I believe Apple’s icons look more organized, because they are in rows
The Lock Screen • Apple tried to copy Android’s format of the lock screen on the iOS 7 update. On the iPhone you don’t have to slide the words “unlock the phone” now, you just swipe left to right anywhere on the screen. Android has always had their lock screen like this. Also, Apple has the time on the screen where it looks like a digital watch, while Android’s clock looks like it was on an old dell computer screen saver.
Siri • Apple came out with Siri in 2011 and it just keeps getting smarter and smarter every year. Siri began just an assistant app with a few capabilities and is now fully integrated to every part of the phone. Siri can now enable settings, turn on Airplane Mode, and has added Wikipedia to its knowledge. Google’s Android Voice Search doesn’t allow you to toggle with settings, send messages, or set calendar events. It is much more focused on gathering information from the Internet.
The Calendar • Apple’s iOS 7 kept the Helvetica font, but they got rid of the unnecessary leather and stitching on the screen. The new calendar is a brighter and simpler version of iOS 6’s calendar. The Google calendar can’t compete with Apple’s calendars. The Google calendar is dull, boring, and doesn’t let you use a voice command system to set calendar events.
The Control Center • Android has always bragged to Apple about having a swipe up quick setting bar. Well now Apple has one and it is called the Control Center. Its clutter-free design allows fast access to all the apps and settings. Android’s settings bar is dull and has less features than Apple’s Control Center.
The Keyboard • Apple’s keyboard has always had the same basic design, but the iOS 7 keyboard has a different feel and brighter colors so you can read it better. Android’s keyboard has the same shape of the Apple keyboard, but has a much darker background. Apple’s keyboard also has 2.5 times the processing speed of Android’s keyboard.
