  3. I. Introduction Our favourite festival is Christmas. It is a joyful festival. Why do people all over the world celebrate Christmas. Through this project, we hope we can know more about Christmas. Besides, we believe that different people have different cultural background and habits, so the ways that they celebrate Christmas would be various from one other. Are you interested in it? Then let’s start our journey!

  4. II. Origins of Christmas Christmas is on 25th December. It is the day which Jesus Christ was born. Around 2011 years ago, a virgin, Mary, gave birth to Jesus Christ. All Christians believe that Jesus is their Saviour. He is the son of God. He brought the Good News to the world. Therefore, all Christians celebrate this day. Although Christmas is a Christian holiday nominally, Christmas is also celebrated by an increasing number of non-Christians in the world. There are many popular modern customs of the holiday, such as gift-giving, singing Christmas carols, an exchange of Christmas cards, church celebrations and having a special Christmas meal.

  5. III. Christmas in different countries Christmas in China Chinese celebrate Christmas by lighting their houses with beautiful paper lanterns. They also decorate the trees with paper chains, paper flowers, and paper lanterns. They call them "Trees of Light“. Chinese children hang muslin stockings at Christmas Eve. They believe that Santa Claus, whom they call ‘Dun Che Lao Ren’, will put the presents in them.

  6. III. Christmas in different countries Christmas in Australia Christmas is in summer in Australia. Therefore, there are no snowmen, sleigh rides or hot chocolate. Even for the Santa Claus, they wear red bathing trunks and sandals only. Is it funny? People in western countries like to eat turkey at Christmas but Australian like to have barbecue outside. Moreover, their Christmas trees are palm trees rather than pine trees.

  7. III. Christmas in different countries Christmas in Russia Russian like to celebrate Christmas on New Year’s Eve. They also decorate the Christmas trees, wrap presents in boxes and put them under the trees. Some Russian even like to invite Santa Claus into their houses to pass out presents. Russian like to have a big dinner with their friends and relatives at Christmas. They usually eat a lot of pies. Most of them are beef and fish pies.

  8. III. Christmas in different countries Christmas in England British like eating sweet food so they have cookies and milk at Christmas. They also write letters and put them on burning fires to send to Santa Claus. They even leave out mince pies and sherry for him on Christmas Eve. British, like American, also give presents and cards to their families and friends at Christmas. They sing carols at church too.

  9. III. Christmas in different countries Christmas in Denmark Danish celebrate Christmas at midnight Christmas Eve. They like to have a special dessert. It is a rice pudding which a single almond is hidden. Danish believe that who can find the almond will have good luck for the coming year. In Denmark, children think Santa Claus will come and give them presents. He is usually assisted with his Yuletide chores by elves who are said to live in attics. Children always leave out saucers of milk and rice pudding for them. They will be delighted if the food is gone on Christmas morning.

  10. Iv. conclusion In conclusion, we find that there are many reasons affecting our Christmas, such as climate, religious and existing plants. Because the ways to celebrate Christmas are so different, our world is more colourful and interesting.

  11. V. reflection (May,Chan Yee Mei) After finishing this project,I have learnt how people celebrate Christmas all around the world. Some people eat turkey, see the Christmas lights, give the presents, go to church, sing carols and decorate the Christmas trees. And it is fun to know that Australians have ‘Hot Christmas’ and they go swimming to celebrate Christmas. I think Christmas is the nicest day in our world. (Betsy, Siu Hoi Ying) I have learn that I should be patient to my group mates because we had to work together. If we always argued with one another, we could not finish our work. We have to accept different ideas. In fact, I enjoyed doing this project with them very much.

  12. (Kitty,Lo Po Yee) After this project, I have learnt a lot of celebrations at Christmas in other countries. I think they are so interesting. Although different countries have different celebrations, I like the Christmas in Hong Kong. If it snows in Hong Kong, I think it is much better because I can have a ‘White Christmas’. (Mandy,Li Xiao Yin) Through this project, I found difficulty in selecting useful information. It is a great challenge. This project work also strengthen my knowledge about Christmas. I am also glad to have a chance to work with my good friends. They gave me a lot of help and support.
