Maternity Services • Midwife lead services were launched on the 8th September 2008 • ‘Home from home’ births for mothers who fall into the "low risk" category. • Communications has been sent to all expectant mums and GPs • Women are now being offered choice of new service at Heatherwood at time of booking – Forecast births are up from Jan 09 • All Midwives are qualified in • Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) • Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS)
Minor Injuries Unit • Launched 29th September 2008 • Formal opening by Theresa May MP on 12 Dec 08 • Currently open 9 am till 5 pm (target 8:30 am till 6:30 pm) Mon-Fri • Saturday opening from 24 Jan 2009 • Currently averaging 40 patients per day • Maidenheads MIU Unit consists of:- • Reception area • One Minor Operations Theatre • Oxygen, ECG, Asthmatic support • Two Consulting Rooms • Newly refitted Plaster Room • Review Clinic
GP-Led Health Centre • Extended Access Personal Medical Service (EAPMS) was launched by Government in Dec 07. The aim is that each PCT is to procure a Primary Care Centre which will be open 365 days a week 08.00 am to 08.00 pm. • The service will provide GP services for a registered and unregistered patients. • The opening of the new GP-Led Centre at Upton Hospital remains on target for 1st April 2009. • Award of Contract is imminent and the successful bidder will mobilise the service between Jan – March 2009.
Bracknell Healthspace • The selection process is underway. There are number of milestones already set. • An advert for potential partners for a long term relationship was placed in two Health Service Publications early August 2008. • A bidders Open Day event was held on 8th September 2008 where 36 interested organisations attended. • A formal process started on 16th September 2008 with the issue of a Memorandum of Information. • Shortlisting has taken place and 4 respondents remain in the process • A further selection is underway and responses are due back on 16 Jan with presentations to an evaluation panel to take place first week Feb • Some respondents have lodged planning applications as part of their preparations • PCT Board to approve ongoing negotiations with a Preferred Partner after receiving recommendations from the evaluation panel.
Outpatients in the Community • The transfer of Outpatient clinics from Acute Hospitals into local settings will be an ongoing feature of the commissioning process. • In some instances this will happen quickly and in other circumstances such as the establishment of the Bracknell Healthspace will be determined by the availability of a building. • Progress of the change is monitored and reported quarterly.
Urgent Care • The establishment of an Urgent Care Centre at Wexham Park Hospital is underway. • Stakeholders are being engaged (Hospitals, GPs, UAs, Health panel, Mental Health etc) • Commissioning service specification is currently being developed. • Wexham park target launch Summer 2009 • Bracknell Urgent Care is directly linked to the Healthspace project planned for 2010
Cancer Care • The new Radiotherapy Service in Bracknell will be provided by the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust – this is linked to the establishment of the Bracknell Healthspace – planned for 2010. • The planning phase for the new Cancer service in Slough will commence Autumn 2009.
