Timeline • September 16 – 27 • Eastside- Tuesday Sept 17 Recruitment night • Units:224, 227, 432, 311, 466, 313, 237, 221, 321, 353 • WestSide- Tuesday Sept 24 Recruitment night • Units 142, 269, 291, 300, 305, 320, 321 • New Leader Trainings- All leaders trained before Oct 15th • East Side – Sept 28th • West Side – Oct 5th • Online @ www.myscouting.scouting.org or from www.training.nsbsa.org

  6. Resources • Enter Unit Date info into Unit Toolbox (UTS) • Order ALL MATERIALS through the UTS • Schedule a pick-up AT LEAST 3 days out. • Golden Valley Office (24 hours a day) • Office Max Location (during business hours) • Arrange with Chris a drop off time/location

  7. Promotions • UNITS should plan on promoting their events in the following ways: • School Open House / Curriculum Night / Meet the Teacher • Charter Organizations / Private Schools • Local Community Centers • Community Festivals • Community Papers • Others…?

Promotions • DISTRICT / COUNCIL volunteers and staff will help with promotional support when possible: • “Boy Talks” in ANY SCHOOL allowing it. • Religious Orgs NOT Chartering Units • Community Center GENERAL Fliers • GENERAL Ads in Local Papers as FOLLOW-UP • School Fliers where allowed; requires coordination w/ UNITS • Council “Xtravaganza” Event as FOLLOW-UP

September Events - Sept 16 - 27 • Your September “Join Scouting Event” should… • …be promoted AT LEAST ONE - TWO WEEKS before event. • …be promoted to current families as well. • …be planned for NO LONGER than 1 hour. • …be a “SIGN UP” night more than a “THIS IS SCOUTING” night. • …focus on registering new YOUTH and not necessarily recruiting new LEADERS. • …provide ALL FAMILIES ATTENDING with a printed calendar, outline of Unit policies, and info on “Unit Parent Orientation”. • …be followed up by a “Parent Orientation Night” as part of the “First Pack Meeting” of the year.

September Events - Sept 16 - 27 • SampleAgenda / Order of Event • Families Arrive / Welcome • Opening - Conducted like any Unit Meeting • Intro to Scouting 10 min, led by Unit Leader • Introduction of Volunteer Leaders • Outline of Unit Programming • Explanation of Scouting Aims and Methods • Highlight Upcoming Events 5 min, led by Comm Chair or other • Give a “teaser” of the upcoming events planned for the next 2 months. • Highlight “Annual” events such as Camp, Banquets, etc. • Review Unit Policies and Calendar Handouts

September Events - Sept 16 - 27 • Suggested Agenda / Order of Event • INVITE FAMILIES TO JOIN • Explain Registration Process, Unit Fees • Guide families through the process • COLLECT APPLICATIONS AND FEES • Remind families of upcoming events • Next Meeting DATE/TIME/LOCATION • Next Activity (Camp, Event, etc.) • Open for questions. • WELCOME TO SCOUTING & CLOSING • (OPTIONAL: Activity for Youth)

  19. September Events - Sept 16 - 27 • District Volunteer Support • Commissioner and/or District Membership Volunteer • Can help be the “District Face” for the event. • Can welcome families as they arrive and help guide them through registration process. • Will collect Applications and ONE UNIT CHECK for total fees. • Fees: • 4 months (Sept – Dec 2013) = $5 Nat’l Fee / $4 Boys’ Life ($9) • 16 months (Sept ‘13 – Dec ‘14) = $20 Nat’l / $16 Boys’ Life ($36) • Additional Fees? Pack/Troop/Crew Dues?
