  2. Introduction

  3. Measurement

  4. Measurement Measurement deals with completing and finishing a job to the desired accuracy. Measurements Tools Devices Instruments Inspection Gauges

  5. Measuring Tools Steel Rulers Straight Edge Flat Steel Square Bevel Proctor Scribers Divider Trammel Punches

  6. Measuring Devices Filet and Radius Gauge Screw Pitch Gauge Surface Plate Try Square

  7. Measuring Instruments Measuring Instruments Caliper Vernier Caliper Micrometer Dial Indicator

  8. Measuring Instruments 1- Calipers: are generally of two types inside and outside to make internal or external measurements. They do not have direct scale reading. They transfer the measurement from a job to scale or vice versa.

  9. Measuring Instruments 2- Vernier Calipers: are generally measure accurately inside, outside and depth. They have direct scale reading.

  10. Measuring Instruments 3- Micrometers: are generally measure inside, outside and depth small diameters with extreme accuracy (0.001). They have direct scale reading.

  11. Measuring Instruments 4- Dial Indicators (Dial Gauge): are generally used for testing flatness of surface and parallelism of bars and rods. Metric dial indicator has an accuracy of 0.01 mm. They have direct scale reading.

  12. Inspection Gauges are commonly employed to avoid costly and lengthyprocess of testing the component dimensions. These gauges are basically used for checking the size, shape and relative positions of various parts.
