ABOUT INDIA • Area: 3.28 million sq. kilometers • India is currently the world’s second-most populous country with over 1.28 billion people • India has 23 constitutionally recognized official languages. Hindi and English are the official languages. • There are more then 1600 languages spoken in India

BOOK PUBLISHING IN INDIA • India is the world’s seventh largest book publishing country. • There are approx. 19,000 publishing houses in India. • 12,400 are using the ISBN system. • With 140, 000 printing presses. • Approximately 90000 titles per year has published.
Out of these, 50% titles are in Hindi and English. • Book publishing in India is booming at a compound annual growth rate of 15 per cent. • While the remaining are in any of the 24 officially recognised regional languages of India. • employment to more than 2 million people.
The CL industry is highly fragmented, it has over 2500 publishers. The organized market • comprises of about 100 publishers across all languages. These organized industry participants • contribute 30% of the volumes sold and 35% in terms of value, ~ INR 2.1 billion.

Title Publication: Eklayva publishes about 35 new titles every year that include a wide range of books for early readers, activity materials, literature for and by children, educational classics, teachers' manuals etc. Magazines: Eklavya publishes a monthly for children called Chakmak; Shaikshik Sandarbh for teachers and high school students; and Srote; a science and technology feature service. Pitara: Activity centres cum outlets for quality educational materials like books, magazines, toys etc developed by Eklavya and other organizations.
