  5. Two economic system (main cause) • North----- capitalist economy （资本主义经济） • South----- plantations （种植园经济） The existence of the slavery system had to be eliminated for it stood in the way for the further development of the capitalist economy throughout the country.

  6. The Slavery Problem Negro slaves were first brought to America at the beginning of the 17th century to meet the needs of the laborers. With the time goes by , The slaves in the south were treated cruelly. They were bought and sold like animals. A novel: :Uncle Tom’s Cabin in1852, Harriet Beecher Stowe.

  12. Fort Sumter It was the Confederates (The Southern Army) not the Union (The Northern Army) that struck the first blow. April 12,1861,at 4:30a.m.,Confederates under General Pierre opened fire with 50 cannons upon Fort Sumter.

  18. The Homestead Bill & The Emancipation Proclamation (1) Reasons of appearing During the first stage of the war from 1861 to 1862, the North was in an unfavorable condition. One important reason was that many farmer had not got enough land and all the Negroes had been still enslaved. Consequently they had not been interested in the war.
