How to turn a 1 dollar bill into a 100 dollar bill Tapping into the Software Industry
The Needs... • A software standard for our organization. • A low cost solution. • Easy access to basic support. • Legal and provable
The Options... • Purchase software for IHQ and let users purchase compatible programs. • Look for shareware solutions. • Ad hock compilation
The Solution... • Decided to go with a industry standard - Microsoft • Prayed for God’s provision • Ran a segmentation of donor base around Redmond. • Had the President write a personal appeal letter aimed at Microsoft employees.
The Response... • INCREDIBLE! • A number of people responded. They were excited to be able to help our ministry in such a profound way. • We offered to cover their cost, but all refused. • Microsoft matched the gift without question because it was provided by an employee.
The Result... • 80 copies of MS BackOffice - 40 disk sets. • 600 copies of Office 97 and Win 95 (enough for each missionary unit and appointee - with discs). • 20 copies of NT Server. • 250 client licenses of NT
Sorry, I work for Symantec, but... • 600 copies of Norton Anti-Virus • 150 copies of PC-Anywhere 32
Extra Benefits... • We can provide a universal standard for our organization at no extra cost to the missionary. • Remote control via PC-anywhere. • Training on one product. • Outlook 97 is a Exchange client. • A budget based on possibilities not necessity.
A Word of Caution... • We should be the models of Integrity • Beware of “Educational Licenses” • Cross all T’s and dot all I’s • Documentation - Make sure you have it. • Documentation - Store it somewhere safe.
