My Definition of Technology Technology can be used in entertainment, for example when you play on an iPod or watch TV you are entertaining yourself using technology. It can also be used for research and saving lives. Technology can make our lives easier and more convenient.
Eyeglasses Invented by: AlesandroDispina in 1280 Eyeglasses are important to people with vision problems. If people couldn’t see, it would be hard for them to survive and for them to perform their daily functions. Eyeglasses went from two connected lenses, to glasses with frames, to bifocals. Now we have trifocals, Lasik eye surgery, to implanted lenses for cataracts, as well as other advances for vision problems.
Pocket Watch Invented by: Peter Henlein The Pocket Watch was used so while you were out, you could just look at your Pocket Watch for the time.
Telescope Invented by: Hans Lippershey in 1608 A telescope allows people to study and learn about different planets or galaxies. It helped us to learn more about space without having to literally go into space.
Microscope Invented By: Galileo Galilei in 1609 The Microscope allows people to see microscopic bugs, plants, minerals, and other objects. It allows us to see things we can’t normally see with our naked eye. This discovery was very important to many areas of science.
Vaccination Invented By: Edward Jenner in 1798 Vaccinations keep contagious diseases from spreading. Contagious diseases used to kill whole civilizations before they invented vaccinations.
Refrigerator Invented By: Jacob Perkins in 1834 Before mechanical refrigerators food would spoil fast when the ice from your ice box melted. The ice box which was an enclosed box with a large chunk of ice kept food from spoiling quickly. With Mechanical refrigerators you didn’t have to go shopping as much for food because not as much would spoil.
Electric Telegraph Invented By: Charles Wheatstone and Samuel Morse in 1609 The electric telegraph allowed people to communicate faster. Depending on how far away the sender was an important message might have taken a couple of weeks to get to the desired person by mail, but the telegraph got the message to the recipient person more quickly.
X-Rays Invented By: Roentgen in 1895 X-rays take pictures of bones. X-Ray scans can go through your skin, blood, and tissue to get these pictures.
Antibiotics Invented by: Alexander Fleming Antibiotics are very important because before antibiotics were invented, infections spread very fast and often killed many people.
World Wide Web Invented By: Tim Berners Lee in 1990 Before the world wide web we only had a green screen and black print for scientists. Then, Tim Berners Lee made the world wide web. This inspired others to make web browsers that included pictures, animations, music, e-mails, and movies for everyone to see and use. These browsers are the world wide web. Now, we have even more ways to communicate using the world wide web such as Twitter, Face book, Skype, and even more ways.
Conclusion Technology has changed our society by making most things run by themselves. What I mean is in our society phones, computers, lights, and a lot more of our objects that we use daily require electricity, batteries, or are solar powered. This makes our lives easier by not having to do everything by hand, but it also costs a lot of money to keep things running. I believe technology has caused our values to change because our possessions are getting more expensive and we think we always need to upgrade everything. For example, my mom just upgraded to the new iPhone 4S and if you press a button, you can talk to it and it will give you answers to everything. It even knows who her parents are! I can only imagine what the next version of the iPhone will be able to do! In the future, I think technology will have a lot to do with weapons. If we are so into guns now, I can’t imagine what it will be like in a few years. Every year guns get more powerful so what will they be like in the future? When I think about the weapons in the future, I think about bigger, more deadly bullets, and more excuses for using them. At the stores, all the video games have something to do with killing and violence. I don’t understand why, but every boy and girl is drawn to these games. If they love the violence and guns in the video games so much, eventually, they’ll get drawn into the real world of guns.
