Joint Application Development JAD Your customer is the owner and final decision-maker. They want to, and should be, an integral part of the process. Follow up with them regularly and formally.
Get it in Writing • Protects both you and the customer from misunderstandings. • Gives focus and direction to the project. • Allows you to foresee needs and budget. • Avoids Scope Creep. • Clarifies “deliverables”. • Highlights customer’s responsibilities. • Gets you paid!
Be Clear • Who is the site owner? Who do you really have to answer to? • Who has do do what by when? • Have customer review and sign off (and pay) at important milestones. Often beginning, middle, and end. • Summarize and write decisions. Send copies to all concerned parties.
Avoiding Scope Creep • Wouldn’t it be neat if… • Oh! We forgot about the super-duper-whiz-bang feature! • Establish Phases. You can do more later. You can add more. Both developer and client can choose to work together or not in future. But stick to goals of agreement. • Sign them up for maintenance!
Prototyping • Vertical: Design one vertical path such as one directory. • Horizontal: Design a page of each category.
