GOAL SETTING Begin with the End in Mind
Phases of Creating… • Mental Creation • Imagine the result • Design plan/blueprints to build result • Physical Creation • Day to day building based on the blueprint/plan
Imagine….. • Somebody is walking towards you on a path…..
Specific • Clearly define what you see, what you can do, what you have • Allows you to focus effort and create good “blueprints” – the how, the what, the why
Measurable • Measure changes/progress so you can see changes that are occurring • Establish criteria for measurement (time, weight, etc.)
Action Oriented • What will you do • Details of the plan (FITT)
Building Blueprints…. • Design a plan to that you will follow to build results
Realistic • NOT a synonym for “easy”, but “do-able” • Must fit in your schedule • Must take into account current state of affairs
Time • How long is each step going to take? • Clear target • Adapt time target when necessary • If you don’t set a time, commitment will be vague
State your goal(s) using the SMART principle: Specific – state specific goal Measurable – Identify how you will be able to measure improvement Action Plan – Develop an action plan that will help you achieve your goal Realistic: State why you feel this is a realistic goal for you to achieve Time Frame: 10 weeks until next fitness appraisal
