Design Overview • To lift the 1 kg weight, we used a counter weight system on tracks. • The weight is attached to the string. It begins at the top of the design, and is released by a trigger which lets the weight fall. • The weight should fall, but also pull up the weight as it reaches the bottom of the design.

Types of Energy • Potential energy can be thought of as energy stored within a physical system. This energy can be released or converted into other forms of energy, including kinetic energy. It has the potential to change the states of objects in the system when the energy is released. • Kinetic Energy- The kinetic energy of an object is the extra energy which it possesses due to its motion. It is defined as the work needed to accelerate a body of a given mass from rest to its current velocity.
A Summary of Stored Energy • The device starts with a high potential energy • It then changes into kinetic energy as it rolls down • Some energy is lost as in sound and heat as the kinetic is changed back into potential • The project was 16in (.4064 meters) tall. The 5lb weight has a mass of 2.268 kg Using Pe = mgh, potential energy is found. (2.268 kg)(9.81 m/s^2)(.4064 m) = 9.04 J
Summary of Design/Construction Issues • Aim of the Project: To lift a 1 Kg object from rest on the floor to as close in 10 seconds • Issues: To make it reliable and to properly lift the object • To get all of the objects to properly work together
Complications on the Tasks Binding all of the materials to create a successful design of the project Staying under the criteria and creating a design that could lift the 1 kg in mass in as close to 10 seconds as possible Coming up with a creative way to start the project as well as completing the task successfully.
Conclusion The project overall was a success as the team worked well together and designed a successful model. Through this project, we applied the basic concepts of physics including the concepts of potential kinetic energy, as well as energy motion. The project involved some complications as the first design was not successful, but working as a team, we designed a new machine that was more balanced and was able to complete the task more successfully. Although the project involved a little problems, it was a success in terms of its structure and its design.
