  3. Instructional Objectives • Critically analyze data • Make observations and gather data • Use data as support for opinion • Collaborate with others/share data • Understand local impact

  4. Pre Lab Preparation • Come to class with three forms of pollution you witnessed on campus • Look online/in newspapers/etc. to find two initiatives locally to prevent pollution.

  5. Activity • Evaluate data presented. Graph and analyze. • Is pollution a problem • What are some negative effects? • Have students propose (in groups/as a class) a way to gather data on campus • Recycling efforts (trash cans/recycling) • Student poll • Amounts of litter • Emissions

  6. Activity continued • Gather data • Report back to group/class • Did you get the results that you expected? • Is your data representative of all pollution on campus? Of pollution nationally? • Did you data differ from classmates/groupmates?

  7. Assessment • Write a letter to MSU official/city council/etc. individually or with group • Take a stand (is pollution a problem at MSU) • Support with real data (including figures/photographs) • Are current efforts working/sufficient? • Propose possible solutions • Discuss consequences
