Who I am as a learner, and who I am becoming as a teacher. Tania Henderson
Who I am as a Learner • One of the most important things you probably have to know about me as a learner is that I love books and reading • Because of this I decided to explain who I am as a learner and who I am becoming as a teacher through 4 books that I had read before entering this program
To Teach by William Ayers • Book about the experiences of author in the classroom. • To me as a teacherit showed the power of caring and empathy in classroom • Greater understanding of teaching in the classroom
The Courage to Teach • Book about how bringing the personal into the classroom can impact teaching • To me it showed the importance of personal experience in teaching • Inspired me to bring in more interconnectedness in my personal and classroom philosophy • Group work and relationships
The Tao of Teaching By Greta Nagel • Book that tries to show how the religion of Taoism can be brought into educational philosophy • Showed me large amount of wisdom and reflection required in teaching • As a teacher I think that the main thing I will take away from this is an understanding of the importance of reflection, wisdom, and balance in teaching.
The Languages of Learning • Book that looks at the relationship between language and learning. • As a learner showed me the importance of language and creativity in learning • As a teacher I took away a better sense of how creativity could be applied towards learning
Conclusion • Based on who I am as a learner and who I am becoming as a teacher I think that I will be a very creative and dynamic teacher, with a caring and understanding relationship with my students.
