  3. Secondary Treatment • Microorganisms consume 90% • Water is aerated to add oxygen • Sludge is either incinerated or recycled • Water is allowed to settle a second time • BNR – Biological nitrogen removal

  4. Tertiary Treatment • Physical or Chemical • Remove fine suspended particles with a filter • Remove Phosphate

  5. Disinfection • Use of Chlorine, ozone or UV light used to kill bacteria • Removal of Chlorine • Water is released to stream • Floculation – process by which solids are grouped
