Outline • A little data philosophy • NYS GIS Coordination Program • NYS GIS data sharing cooperative and clearinghouse • Orthoimagery and elevation data • Broadband Mapping Program • GIS web services • Street Address Mapping (SAM) • Geocoding web service
noise What we store and query • Domain of: • Search • Discovery • Awareness content data information knowledge • Domain of: • SM Experts • Synthesis • Insights expertise What we need for decisions wisdom
Geographic Databases Wetlands Flood Zones Land Ownership Landcover Transportation Surface Waters Boundaries Water Lines Elevation Sewer Lines Geodetic Control Soils Ortho Imagery Framework Data Additional Base Data
NYS GIS Coordination Program • March 1996, Temporary Geographic Information Systems Council • September 20, 1996 Governor’s Technical Policy on GIS • Coordinating Body • July 1997, GIS Data Sharing Technology Policy • Data sharing Coop • Standards
NYS GIS Data Sharing Cooperative • Government, NFP, Academics • No secondary distribution • Contacts • Feedback
Orthoimagery Program • 4-Bands (R, G, B, and N-IR) • 1-ft GSD in urban areas, +/- 4-ft • 2-ft GSD in rural areas, +/- 8-ft • NYC Specs • 0.5-ft GSD Color, +/- 2-ft • All structures in Manhattan orthorectified • Structures above 5-stories in outer boroughs orthorectified • June flight for Manhattan
Orthoimagery Options • Add CIR • Separate 3-band images • Increase resolution up to 0.5-ft GSD • True Orthorectification • Custom Mosaics • Accelerated Delivery
Street Address Mapping(SAM) Create a statewide authoritative address point database to support next-generation 9-1-1 and other purposes
SAM Big Picture • Next Generation 911 requires GIS data • Huge range of needs for address data statewide • Building to highest level requirements (i.e. 911) will support all lower requirements • Not a re-addressing project; we’re just mapping what you've got • Address point data will… • Support 9-1-1 dispatch • Be publicly available for widespread uses • Support high-quality geocoding • Contain no personal or sensitive information • Contain unique IDs
NENA Address Standards • FGDC Standard(February 2011) • Parses/breaks out addresses into smaller components • Jointly developed by URISA & NENA • Includes subaddresses • NENA version • Allows some abbreviations • NENA reviewing 200+ public comments • Mapping (location) standard for address points lacking • Where to place a point & how many points? • NENA standing up a work group • Will follow NENA standards development process
