A Modern Academic Department is a Business • It conducts research and protects its IPR with the aim to generate revenue • It offers consultancy and applies its research to industry problems • It runs short courses and CPD • It has to design and offer products with regional, national and global appeal • It uses its research to develop relevant curricula • It works with employers to design educational and training products • It recruits students to educate them for employment • It develops regional and global partnerships • And it must balance its books at the end of each year!!!!!
