What is NJPAA? • Innovative, more comprehensive assessment system that provides opportunities for children to demonstrate higher level knowledge and skills. • Vehicle for exemplary professional development for teachers and administrators. • A collegial network that shares a common vision for teaching, learning and assessment.
What are the benefits of participation? • Increase proficiency and understanding in the purpose, design, and implementation of performance based assessment and instruction. • Enhance – perhaps even – transform practice through high quality, innovative professional development opportunities for your staff. • Build capacity and teacher leadership.
What are the benefits of participation? • Access to a district-specific NJPAA web-based student and data management application. • Membership in a professional network and support team.
What is the district’s role? • Choose one or more grade levels, one or more content areas and one or more schools to participate in the project. • Identify teachers in those schools, grade levels and subjects who will administer the prompts, and analyze, evaluate and score the individual student products. • Provide one in-service day for the teachers who administered the prompts to participate in a regional scoring session.
What is the district’s role? • Provide two days of in-service for one person in the district who can be trained in the protocols for using student work. • Provide some staff development time for further work with other teachers on examining student work.
