National Benchmark Test(NBT) - compulsory www.nbt.ac.za • Dates Write before the end of July – consult NBT website for details Applicants write test once for Health Sciences. I the test is written twice the results of the first test is taken into consideration • Value added Questionaire Value added Questionnaire applies to all programmes except BOH and BCMP Only students who comply with the minimum requirements will go through to the next phase of the selection process.
Selection Criteria School leavers • Final Gr 11 results • Results of the National Benchmark Test • Value Added Questionnaire(Biographical information to indicate extracurricular activities regarding leadership roles, sport and cultural participation and community involvement) A selection mark of abovementioned three factors is calculated. Candidates are then ranked according to their selection mark from the highest to the lowest and The top group is selected according to the quota. A waiting list (of equal number ) is also created from the same list. Candidates who are provisionally selected and those on the waiting list are informed of their status. Applicants who are unsuccessful are also informed. If a candidate has been provisionally selected the academic standard in matric must be maintained on the same level it was in relation to what it was in Gr11 or higher. If this requirement is not met the candidate will forfeit his/her admission.
TOP UP SELECTION (30) If a candidate is not successful on grounds of scholastic achievement during September selection Apply for: BSc Biological Sciences or BSc Medical Sciences Follow same curricula as the medical students during the first semester. First semester modules Chemistry Physics Molecular and Cell Biology People and their environment Science and world views Medical terminology The top 30 students from this group is selected to continue with first year medicine in the second semester.
