  1. 7th Grade Success in iLEAP The 7th Grade Team

  2. Introduction • Successful students will: • Objective: • Learn daily and prepare to be successful adults • Take initiative and practice good test taking strategies. • Outcome: • With this preparation students will be successful on the iLEAP as well.

  3. ELA • Writing • To be successful on the writing portion of the iLEAP students should: • Remember that handwriting counts (if the grader can’t read your submission they will count it wrong) • Make sure your “s”, “e”, etc. look like the typed version • Organization is a large portion as well. Take your time to plan your response by following the writing process. • Make a list of all of the items you are supposed to touch on within your answer. Cross them out as you cover them. • Make sure you meet the minimum word requirement. • Remember what you have to say is important!

  4. ELA • Reading Comprehension • READ THE DIRECTIONS! • Read the questions prior to reading the prompt. • Read the prompt and underline or circle important things. • You’ve already read the questions so the answers should jump out at you!

  5. Information Resources • You will be given several articles or excerpts with a few questions testing how well you research or flip through to find the relevant information. • Again, you must read the questions first so you know what you are looking for. • Skimming is the key here. • You will run out of time if you attempt to read all of the information provided.

  6. Visual Aids • The answers are in the graphs, maps, or charts. • You do not need to have knowledge of the subject of the visual aid. Don’t be scared of the topic. • All of the answers are in front of you; you just need to know how to see them.

  7. Science • Most questions are problem solving questions • Most questions involve stimulus material such data tables, charts, graphs, illustrations, graphic organizers, maps, or descriptions of scientific investigations.

  11. Math • iLEAP Test Facts • The test is broken into 2 parts • Multiple Choice • Constructed Response • It covers 6 areas • Numbers and Number Relationships • Algebra • Measurement • Geometry • Data Analysis, Probability and Discrete Math • Patterns, Relations and Functions

  16. Additional Test Tips • Eliminate answers that you know can’t be right • Answer all questions. They count how many you get right not how many you get wrong so don’t leave anything blank. If all else fails Guess!
