The process of securely removing a bee colony, mainly honey bees, from a structure or area where they are not wanted and relocating them to a new location where they can develop a new colony is referred to as live bee removal and relocation. This is often done by beekeepers or specialists trained in live bee removal who are able to safely remove the colony without harming the bees or people. The process typically involves finding the location of the queen bee, removing the comb and bees, and transporting them to the new location. Live bee removal and relocation is often preferred over extermination as honey bees play an important role in pollination and their populations have been declining due to various factors such as habitat loss, pesticide use, and disease. If you have a bee colony on your property and you want to have it removed, it's important to find a reputable beekeeper or specialist who can do the job safely and responsibly. How we do removal In order to efficiently remove and relocate live bees, we use a customized bee box that is coupled to a vacuum. The flow control on this box/vacuum configuration protects the bees from harm. The centre of this container houses a genuine bee box, similar to those found on the side of the road. Before beginning the low flow bee vacuum operation to remove the bees, we thoroughly investigate the cavity where the colony is located. We still
need to excavate a hole at least 2 feet by 2 feet in size to reach the bees. As the initial phase, the bees are vacuumed into the lower chamber of a customized vacuum box. A bee hive is divided into various compartments. There is pollen, brood comb, empty comb, uncured honey, and cured honey available. Bees can be found almost anywhere. As we progress deeper into the hive, we come upon brood, or juvenile larval bees. The nucleus of the hive is located here. After gently removing the honey comb from the hive, it is rubber banded into the empty bee frames. After we have removed all of the larvae or brood, we stop the vacuum and remove the cover. These baby bee frames are placed in the centre of the vacuum or bee box. The vacuuming bees are kept at bay by a detachable screen in the lower container. After the lower screen is removed and the vacuum/box is reassembled, all of the bees that have been sucked up to that point are allowed to join the brood frames. This is a critical component of our approach and what sets us apart from the bulk of other firms. Most other beekeepers separate the bees from the brood, which increases the likelihood that the brood may perish due to a lack of heat while travelling to its new location.
