I John 5:13 • I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.
Encounter Christ REVELATION
1 Jn 5:11-12 And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life.
2 Tim 1:12 “That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet this is no cause for shame, because I know whom I have believed” • Revelation vs education
Enforce the New Life SEPARATION
2 Tim 2:19 Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness." (NIV)
1 Jn 3:9 Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God.
Repentance • Perfection vs Direction
Practical Applications • Confess your sins daily—1 Jn 1:9 • Know what not to love—1 Jn 2:15-16 • Lust of the flesh—passion • Lust of the eyes—possession • Pride of life—position
Receive help from others • Paraptoma—trespass—to fall when one should have resisted temptation or maintain a spiritual walk • James 5:16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results
Enjoy the Word of God TRANSFORMATION
Enjoy the Word of God • I John 2:5 But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. This is how we know we are living in him • Transformation vs information
1 Jn 2:7, 9-11 • “…Love one another…If anyone claims, “I am living in the light,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is still living in darkness. Anyone who loves a fellow believer is living in the light and does not cause others to stumble.
But anyone who hates a fellow believer is still living and walking in darkness. Such a person does not know the way to go, having been blinded by the darkness.
Help the needy • 1 Jn 3:17 If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?
Forgive the nasty • Col 3:13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. • Make allowance means to endure, to bear with, to be tolerant
