Brief Information on How Laparoscopic Surgery is done Laparoscopy is a procedure that is used to determine the conditions of the organs in the abdomen. Many people have undergone laparoscopic surgery in India, as it is a very low-risk procedure that has small incisions made. This surgery is performed using an instrument called laparoscope, which helps the surgeon look into the organs in the abdomen, it’s a long, thin tube which has a bright light and high quality camera on the front of it. The procedure is performed by inserting the laparoscope in the abdominal wall by an incision and as it keeps moving, the camera displays the images to a monitor. Laparoscope helps the surgeon look into the patient's body, without any open surgery, the surgeon can also acquire samples of biopsy while performing this procedure. Why does one need laparoscopy? This procedure is usually done to figure out the main reasons for pain in the abdomen or pelvis. This is often performed when the other low-risk methods fail to help in diagnosing the problem. The other methods that are usually used are ultrasound, CT scan and MRI, laparoscopy is usually performed when none of the other tests provide accurate or enough information for a diagnosis. The doctors usually recommend this procedure to examine the conditions of organs like appendix, liver, pancreas, stomach and mostly the abdominal organs. They usually examine these areas to diagnose abdominal tumor or diseases in the liver and other abdominal problems.
How is the procedure performed? This procedure is often performed as an outpatient procedure, the patient would be discharged on the same day, the procedure is performed. Laparoscopy surgery in India can be performed in a hospital or a surgical centre. The patient is put on general anesthesia, so that the patient is asleep during while performing this procedure and doesn’t feel any kind of pain. In a few cases, local anesthesia is used to just numb the area where the surgery would be done and the patient would be awake, however, won’t feel any kind of pain. Laparoscopy is done by making an incision under the belly button and a cannula, a small thin tube is inserted, to inflate the abdomen with carbon dioxide gas, the gas lets the surgeon get a clear visual of the organs in the abdomen clearly. After the inflation, the laparoscope is inserted through the incision and the camera at the head of the laparoscope, displays the organs in the abdomen on a screen, which lets the surgeon get visuals in real time. Once the procedure is successfully completed the incision is closed by stitching it and covered with bandages.
