  3. 2010 Curriculum • Competency based Specialty Training Programme • Four Stages of Learning • Units of Training • Learning outcomes assessed using WPBA toolkit

  4. Training Programme 2012

  5. Intermediate -2 years • ST3 • Essential units - Obstetrics - Pain - General (12 units) • Optional units - Eyes/plastics/vascular • ST4 • Essential units - Cardiac - Neuro - Paediatrics - ICM

  6. Higher -2 years • ST5 • Essential - General (13 units) - Airway (Mandatory) • ST6 – Spiral training • Essential units - Cardiac - Neuro - Paediatrics - ICM

  7. Advanced – 1 year • ST7 • Directed by trainee • Essential units – clinical practice/ team working/ leadership/management/ innovation/education • Optional units

CCT Milestones • Initial Assessment of Competence (first 6/12) • Initial Assessment of Competence in Obstetric Anaesthesia (first 2 years) • Primary FRCA (in years 1 & 2) • Basic Level Training Certificate (end of year 2) • Final FRCA (in years 3 & 4) • Intermediate Level Training Certificate (end of year 4) • Complete Higher and Advanced essential units or training and • Advanced special interest units of training

  9. Assessments • Formal RCoA Fellowship examinations - Primary exam essential for to ST3 - Final exam essential for entry to ST5 • WBPA’s • Simulation • All used to evaluate trainee progress at ARCP

WPBA’s Toolkit • Anaesthetic Clinical Evaluation Exercise (A-CEX) • Case Based Discussion (CBD) • Direct Observation of Procedural Skills (DOPS) • Anaesthetic List/Clinic/ Ward Mx Assessment Tool (ALMAT) • Acute Care Assessment for ICM (ICM-ACAT) • Clinical Supervisors end of unit Assessment Form (CSAF) • Multi- Source Feedback (MSF)

  11. WPBA’s • Minimum requirements for each unit of training - CBD/ DOP /A-CEX/ALMAT • MSF annually -15 forms (8 must be consultants) • LEADER form - evidence of training and experience in Leadership and Management

  12. Annual Review of Competence Progression • Deanery website • Using E-Portfolio • All documents required will be sent to you • Dates for 2013 (Venue: Queen Victoria Hospital) - Monday 14th January 2013 - Thursday 4th July 2013 - Monday 8th July 2013
